At Node our driving belief is the last 10 years have been about finding the right information, and the next 10 years will be about finding the right people. Node is building out an API that will serve up search results for hundreds of thousands of simultaneous clients, and we need someone with strong python experience to help build out our backend, indexes and crawlers. In this position you will deal with JSON and third-party APIs on a daily basis.
You have real-world experience with one or more of the following: asynchronous workers, ElasticSearch/Lucene, Docker, graph databases, segmentation of graph data along organizational boundaries, distributed algorithms, data analysis, natural language processing, entity identification/chunking/extraction, name entity disambiguation, stream processing, online machine learning, Spark Streaming, Samza, Titan, Hadoop/HBase, triple stores, and/or implementation details relating to API security, rate limiting, monitoring and billing.
This role is hands-on with plenty of opportunities to grow, and you will be in the trenches, contributing to our codebase and making sure the lights are on. We are looking for someone who is able to dive in and help address complex challenges without the need for handholding, to use judgment to avoid getting sidetracked in minor details, and to keep a focus on quality and excellence without losing sight of tactical needs. We’re looking for someone with a collaborative style, who knows when to take initiative and when to step back and defer to the judgment of the team. You will need to be able and willing to write a lot of unit and integration tests.
We are excited about the problems we’re tackling and the space we are in. We are a stealth startup (team is exGoogle, IBM, Salesforce), backed by NEA, Mark Cuban, Felicis, Dave McClure, etc. located in San Francisco (SoMA). We like to make sure it’s a good fit on both sides so prefer a contract-to full-time hire arrangement.
